Lions Clubs International is an organisation that began in the U.S.A. in 1917 when Chicago Insurance man Melvin Jones had the idea of joining a group of separate business groups into one, with the intention of serving their own communities and the world at large.
The idea of Lionism spread rapidly throughout the world, and today, Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organisation, with over 1.4 million members committed to working together in community service. As an organisation, every penny collected for charitable purposes goes directly to helping others in need.
All administration costs in serving the community are met directly by the members themselves.
The Lions motto is “WE SERVE”.
Lions are ordinary people doing amazing things.
Lions are people who give something back to their communities.
Lions are people who identify the needs of others and set about meeting
those needs.
Lions are people who enjoy themselves and include fun in their caring attitudes
Lions encourage a spirit of friendship and fellowship.
CHELMSFORD LIONS CLUB
Chelmsford Lions Club was formed in 1969, and this year our club will enjoy its 38th Charter Anniversary Celebration .
One of the original Charter members is still involved in the club.
We are very fortunate in possessing our own Headquarters, The Lions Club Community Centre at 357 Springfield Road, Chelmsford. The club meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 8 pm and continually meets socially together, and with others, in a range of social activities.
The current membership stands at around 20 active members aged from around 30 upwards, and whilst membership is by invitation only, the club is always looking to recruit active,reliable, l sociable, new members.
Chelmsford Lions Club is an integral part of District 105EA of the Multiple 105 British Isles and Ireland. Since its formation Chelmsford Lions Club has been very active in the local community first and foremost,and also gets involved with projects nationally, as well as responding to International needs when called upon.
Chelmsford Lioness Club with a very healthy female membership runs totally separately, and highly successfully, alongside Chelmsford Lions Club and also has a very successful history and current activities which can be accessed through the link on this website.
