" CHELMSFORD LIONS CLUB .....NEEDS YOU....!!!
"Ordinary People..................Amazing Things"
Do you fancy the idea of having lots of laughs, doing some good for the people in your area and around the world, and making new friends at the same time?
Chelmsford Lions Club is a Mens club, part of Lions International, the largest voluntary service organisation in the world- over 1,400,000 members with 46,000 clubs in 197 countries.
As Lions we basically get involved in 4 main areas :-
1) We raise monies for our local communities and worldwide, needs such as disasters etc.
2) We organise welfare projects to make sure that needy causes receive the monies we have raised.
3) We serve - providing transport, care, equipment etc. and any other practical help that we can see is needed to improve the quality of life for others.
4) We socialise, meeting together and with other Lions and friends for fun activities, so its not all just helping others, we enjoy what we do!
WHERE? In and around our local community but also helping with National and International crises and disasters.
WHO? Lions come from all walks of life, of all ages, and we have no political or religious associations. Our common aim is just to have fun helping others. The only requirements are that you are of an active and lively disposition and are just able to devote a little bit of time occasionally to help with what we do.
Why don't you come and try joining in with one of our meetings! you will be made to feel very welcome or feel free to bring a friend along with you, if you feel awkward arriving alone.
WHAT? Activities include assisting families in distress, working with the blind, physically and mentally disabled, helping provide hospital equipment, food parcels, providing transport and outings.
Socially we meet for informal drinks, meals, quiz nights, fun weekends away at home and abroad, car rallies, golf, ten pin bowling etc. We also meet for more formal and ceremonial events annually and provide the opportunity to meet up with members from other clubs.
WHY? Because we feel passionately that everybody should put something back into society , as it brings so much more pleasure helping others.
WHEN? We meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday evenings each month at 8pm at the Lions Hall, behind the Endeavour Pub in Chelmsford, and then plan activities for other times, but members can just give of what ever time they feel able. No pressure is applied.
If you live too far outside Chelmsford, then we can put you in touch with a Lions Club near you.
LIONESS CLUB: The club has a Ladies section, who meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Lions Hall. All Ladies are welcome to attend. Email: chelmlioness@aol.com

COME ON GIVE US A TRY.........YOUR COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU!!!
REMEMBER...."BEING A LION, IS THE LIFELINE BETWEEN THOSE WHO ARE 'KNOWN TO WANT' AND THOSE WHO 'WANT TO KNOW' .....
LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL OBJECTS:
TO CREATE and foster a spirit of understanding among the people of the world.
TO PROMOTE the principle of good government and good citizenship.
TO TAKE an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.
TO UNITE the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding.
TO PROVIDE a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest, provided, however that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members.
TO ENCOURAGE service minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavours.
To perhaps best summarise what Chelmsford Lions Club is about , would be to say that we are largely involved in four main areas, namely: Fund Raising, Charitable Distribution, Community Service and Social.
Fund Raising:- This is a prime activity in that we are always searching for new and fun ways of raising money to bolster club funds, such as our Santa Sleigh Runs throughout December, Easter Eggs in Pubs, selling Quiz Sheets and holding Quiz nights, Raffles throughout the year , Teddy Bears Picnic in July ( Mini Carnival), Raft Race, Sponsored Runs and other events , Balderdash Evenings , "Tin Shaking " etc etc....
Charitable Distribution: - We aim to distribute most monies of what we raise for the benefit of our local community, recently for instance a wheelchair for the Shopmobility scheme, Meadows Shopping Centre, Age Concern, Marie Curie, Childrens MRI Scanner with the NHS, Headway Essex, Helen Rollason, Farleigh Hospice ,Senior Citizens Party, to name just a few. A small amount goes towards National Charities and International projects, such as Earth Quake Appeals, Third World Water and Eye Projects etc....
Some spending is by way of donations. This might be to local Charitable organisations such as Cancer Hospices, Moulsham Grange, Local individuals ( either with disabilities or perhaps young people needing worthwhile sponsorship) or to National Charities.
Community Service:- This area of Lions time is spent on organising events or assisting others with their needs, such as Senior citizen events, providing transport for disabled people, joining in with District days out for needy families,Refuge children visit to Circus etc.... Collecting Spectacles for the Third World , recycling mobile phones, ink cartridges, other recycling projetcs etc....
Social: - We run an active programme of social events for the benefit of the members, their partners, families and friends and often in conjunction with the Lionesses. The main social functions ,are Charter Night in the Autumn , always a dinner dance, Change Over Night in June, both fairly formal events, to maintain the clubs traditions. We visit many different restaurants and try different Nationality foods and drink, go away for occasional weekend breaks together for a variety of fun activities, Quiz Nights, Cheese and Wine evenings, Invite outside speakers into the meetings, join with other clubs for fellowship and fun and make the most of our time as members.
A random few of our events for the next few weeks, come and join us!!!

What Commitment is required of a Chelmsford Lions Club Member?
Club Meetings are held at our Lions Hall on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the Month with a social event always planned if there is a 5th Wednesday in the month.
Each Lion gets involved in some or all of the above four main aspects of what we do and being in a Lions Club can be a very busy pastime .........................but a member just gives of himself and his time where possible. .....no pressure is applied.
All the activities are shared between the members, therefore being a member never becomes onerous................... we have lots of laughs and fun whilst doing some good in the world! and giving something back.

CHELMSFORD LIONS CLUB
Chelmsford Lions Club was formed in 1969 and this year the club celebrates its 37th Charter Celebration in October. The club is very fortunate in possessing its own Headquarters, The Lions Club Community Centre at 357 Springfield Road, Chelmsford. The club meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 8 pm and continually meets socially together, and with others in a range of social activities.
The current membership stands at around 20 active members aged from 30 upwards, and whilst membership is by invitation only, the club is always looking to recruit active, lively, sociable, new members.
Chelmsford Lions Club is an integral part of District 105EA of the Multiple 105 British Isles and Ireland. Since its formation Chelmsford Lions Club has been very active in the local community first and foremost, Nationally, as well as responding to International needs when called upon.
Chelmsford Lioness Club which runs totally separately, and highly successfully, alongside Chelmsford Lions Club also has a very active and fulfilling history and current activities which can be accessed through the link on this website.
